The Lord Advocate states that the bill given for ascent was ‘within the competence of the Scottish Parliament’ except one part of that bill, and Westminster passed a law despite the above of not having consent.

Answered a comment on overrepresentation in Scotland:
This is actually true.
But there’s something you may not be aware of [redacted].. it's actually for past evils. Scotland was under represented from 1707 to 1885 when the population had shifted in England significantly (from 1707) and the seats had been increased in Scotland to 72 seats for a population I would estimate of approx. 4 million for England's 452 seats and population of around 25 million.
This is the closest we got to a fair representation for population in Scotland but I note England took 2 extra seats for itself. (see maths)
Of course population is exponential not incremental (expedential), it can easily double the double of the initial amount.
Scotland and England in 1707, Scotland’s population of 1 million to England’s 5 million. Scotland got 45 seats. England retained a staggering 486 seats.
Post 1885 England’s population started justifying those seats, while due to many factors, Scotland population stayed mild.
see here:
Number of Westminster MPs - Wikipedia
Demography of England - Wikipedia
Demographic history of Scotland - Wikipedia
1707
1 million = 45
5 million divided by 1 = 5
5 x 45 =225
Result= 486 seats for England.
1885
4 million = 72 seats
25 million divided by 4 million = 6.25
6.25 x 72 =450
Result: 452 seats for England.
From Wikipedia on Scotland’s population “With a population of 4.8 million in 1911” .. so at least, its a low ball figure of 4 million in 1885. Any more population and we should have had more representation in Scotland or decreased representation in England..
