The Bravest Heart.. the myths, the poetry, the truth..

Hullo

I hear a lot of talk on forums etc 'braveheart is pure fantasy..'

Let's consider what this work is and isn't..

It isn't a factual blow-by-blow representation of William Wallace's life. In fact the writers mashed 20 years together that were not together.. beyond this, let's delve into what Braveheart is;

It's a poem for love of country, love of Scotland.. when William first unites with Mirran this is a poetic allusion to the first time a Scotsperson (in this case Scotsman) meets Alba for the first time and falls in love with Her.

Mirran represents Alba.

We see the character of William willing to risk all and do all, things that are beyond him, but still he does.

Allusion is like Illusion, Illusion is myth, but allusion is poetical truth through symbolism, this does not equate to the same thing, and you should not let others tell you that this poem is a lie.

The English overran our country in those times, this was truth.
The English wished us to end our loyalty to Alba. This was truth.

We see William will never give up his love of Mirran/Alba. This is truth.
He fights as Scots did. This is truth.

We won the wars of independence.
The Scottish King was conflicted about his English and Scottish loyalties. This is truth.

'Pict' means 'painted face'. Indeed our ancestors painted their faces. The Pictish Gauls were the elite fighting force of the Gauls. Born to fight, lived to fight. Naked from birth, in tune with the animal world, with their scent.. shaped to be unseen (Keltoi in Greek means 'hidden'), every bit 'elite ninja' of their time. By bearing face paint in Braveheart we see a poetical truth; This is an allusion.

The battles did not happen as shown:

The spears in the ground.. likely or unlikely?
I don't know, but the Welsh Gauls used this tactic in the middle east around 1000BC and were heralded as mighty warriors, as it had not been seen before in that area, an unhorse-backed force taking down a horse-backed one.

I suspect this is an allusion to the Welsh Gauls.

The battle of Stirling bridge.. in real life it was hilarious!.. I imagine the filmmakers kept it more sedate to keep sane the sensibilities of English moviegoers.

The Tyrant Edward Longshanks .. evil a man as ever was. He and Margaret Thatcher will be firmly tied to a post together in Hell.

So.. to sum up.. yes Braveheart is love letter to Alba, one that no Scot should ever be ashamed of, for a 900 year pursuit of the horror of us, to make us kneel before them.. to before and beyond, our 7000 year history as the Gauls and the rightful inhabitants of these lands.

English are the invaders and occupiers. The German/Dutch pirates.

See well, what Braveheart provokes in you! it is POETIC TRUTH, True love that you LOVE your country and the poem of that love is expressed when you watch that darling tender movie.
