Reasonings
Now before anyone says 'you're trying to be officus'.. these are guidelines .. and even ones I would prefer to see not observed, no one should hold anything over anyone in terms of language. (see above)
'Kin' is in English 'can'.. why? because we Scots don't pronounce the A, we pronounce an I and since Cin.. is pronounced 'Syn'.. we end up with the wrong word. But if we use K for the first letter, we achieve the correct result.
Hænæ vs huvnæ.. hæ is the correct Scots word for the English 'have' as it contains more particles of ownership to Scots, however 'hænæ' 'haynay' sounds too much like a surname, it muddies the clearness of what is said, so since we already have a particle in 'næ' we sacrifice 'hæ' for the sake of clarity.
Lit vs like is a simple realization error.. that Scots think we are saying 'like' without listening to the word coming out of our mouths.. we are actually saying 'lit'.
When writing in Scots to friends I sometimes put a 'y' inside words like.. it.. iyt ayt iys.. this is to signify a letter that doesn't exist in our alphabet.. most Scots speakers don't hear it, but other English speakers do hear it and it confuses them.. this is one reason why we are not understood in the English speaking community when we speak.. even when we say 'as' we don't and the English speaking world hears it something like: ahys.. like A-highs and not the English 'azz'.. and this is similar for many many Scots words. I suggested a new letter to signify this to the DSL, but their wit in understanding of what I was saying.. was ironically, insufficient.
We add a ultra soft 'h' and mid soft 'y' to many of our words.
Using 'Ash' letter
I use Ash when possible.. like wæ (with) and not 'wi'..because we say fæ and not 'fi'.. hæ and not 'hi'. The particles of ownership are arranged to be standardized. But also different uses.. like 'gærden' (Garden) 'hært' (Heart) 'ænswer' (Answer).. these use a softer ash, but through this use of ash, we can demonstrate to ourselves what other non-Scots English speakers are hearing.. and why they cannot directly understand Scots when spoken naturally.
I was asked by the DSL where I got my references.. I obviously got them from both daily use and Scots language programmes like.. Still Game, Chewin' The Fat, Limmy's Show and Burnistoun.
I sat through all of them.. for the most part laughing and stopping & listening to how the words were pronounced. I was flabbergasted when I was asked where I got these as it should have been obvious to the DSL.

With the Scots language is it MUCH more important THE EMOTION in which you say something.. getting ‘spelling wrong’.. grammar, diction.. is an anathema. In Scots it’s all about the 1. Intention it was said. 2. The emotion it was said with. 3. The way it was crafted.
Like if I were to say:
‘Oh yur the spittin image o’ yursel’
This means I am saying.. the person is looking well and how I imagined them. It’s a micro-poem and crafting micro-poems is very important in the Scots language, and to Scots people, as it can easily make you popular depending on your skill. Spelling.. spell it how you like, as long as I understood you, all is good.
The hInglish care nothing about this.. for them the way to gauge someone’s intelligence is diction, grammar, literacy. Basically.. forthrightness and clarity of speech.

Hænæ vs huvnæ.. hæ is the correct Scots word for the English 'have' as it contains more particles of ownership to Scots, however 'hænæ' 'haynay' sounds too much like a surname, it muddies the clearness of what is said, so since we already have a particle in 'næ' we sacrifice 'hæ' for the sake of clarity.
Lit vs like is a simple realization error.. that Scots think we are saying 'like' without listening to the word coming out of our mouths.. we are actually saying 'lit'.
When writing in Scots to friends I sometimes put a 'y' inside words like.. it.. iyt ayt iys.. this is to signify a letter that doesn't exist in our alphabet.. most Scots speakers don't hear it, but other English speakers do hear it and it confuses them.. this is one reason why we are not understood in the English speaking community when we speak.. even when we say 'as' we don't and the English speaking world hears it something like: ahys.. like A-highs and not the English 'azz'.. and this is similar for many many Scots words. I suggested a new letter to signify this to the DSL, but their wit in understanding of what I was saying.. was ironically, insufficient.
We add a ultra soft 'h' and mid soft 'y' to many of our words.
Using 'Ash' letter
I use Ash when possible.. like wæ (with) and not 'wi'..because we say fæ and not 'fi'.. hæ and not 'hi'. The particles of ownership are arranged to be standardized. But also different uses.. like 'gærden' (Garden) 'hært' (Heart) 'ænswer' (Answer).. these use a softer ash, but through this use of ash, we can demonstrate to ourselves what other non-Scots English speakers are hearing.. and why they cannot directly understand Scots when spoken naturally.
I was asked by the DSL where I got my references.. I obviously got them from both daily use and Scots language programmes like.. Still Game, Chewin' The Fat, Limmy's Show and Burnistoun.
I sat through all of them.. for the most part laughing and stopping & listening to how the words were pronounced. I was flabbergasted when I was asked where I got these as it should have been obvious to the DSL.
