Why Aren't Aussies Making Hydrogen?.. They Should!

 Hi

So recently I have been thinking about Australia..

Firstly, enough sunshine falls on 'The Bush' desert in one day to power the planet for a year. One day! A Year! But storing this energy is a problem.. no.. wait.. no it isn't.

Secondly, the efficiency of Hydrogen , is a two pronged tine.. on one prong it is one the most energy density rich material. On the other tine .. a lot of energy is lost making that hydrogen in the first place.. but do you see where I'm going with this?

It doesn't matter if loads of energy efficiency is lost when you have so much going to waste daily anyway! Literal sun energy hitting the dirt. Doing nothing good. Causing fires.

So if you had a plant near Exmouth with a pipeline and converted oil rig off the coast.. pumping seawater to the plant on the shore..

so to not disturb the barrier reef..

Power from solar panels on large poles covering the area and providing power..

What would this gain Australia?

Hydrogen (pure)

Oxygen (pure)

Sodium (for battery production)

Deuterium (for future energy production, sell to other countries. requirement for Helium 3 reactors.)

It's bit like.. free oil. free unlimited oil. Yes the set up costs.. cost a LOT of money, but if the Aussies were smart they would make a Nationalized Hydrogen Company and sit back.. and watch all the money roll in! No more borrowing! No more problems over welfare! Lower taxation!

How would I do it if I were the Australian Government?

Firstly, I would buy all the solar panels I could get my hands on. Put them on massive poles the height of wind turbines (wind farms) and make them in to a power grid.

Secondly, Get an old oil rig out at sea, but in a place that safe to suck up loads of seawater, with a pipe that can move it to shore.. then I would create the plant.. first stage would be desalination, extracting the sodium. This can be done simply by heating the water to boiling and siphoning off the steam. The steam once cooled returns to a liquid and has three elements.. hydrogen oxygen and deuterium. If you run an electrical current through this liquid the three become gasses, ready to be captured.

Thirdly, ban all 'carbon puffers' .. petrol diesel etc.. If a company wants to sell a vehicle in Australia make it a law they can only sell electric and Hydrogen cars and lorries.. over produce Hydrogen (home market only) so you can offer it to Aussies for a fraction of the price of carbon fuels. You just banned their vehicle so they'll be mad, but if you help them save so much money it makes their new vehicle cheaper that'll turn them back in to happy voters!

Fourthly, Replace every petrol station's fuel with hydrogen.

Finally, sell excess resources, make a mint.. then let everyone just go about their day.. because it didn't really matter what fuel we used to get about, so long as we're not choking the planet.

When a new house is built, I would get three large shipping containers, make them in to huge Sodium Ion (or sodium aluminium) batteries and bury them under the house. Each battery should last 50 years,, so say 150 years until they need changed, and you never need to worry about capacity because these would be overkill.

🤔 If I ruled the world..

đź¤” If I ruled the world..

I would give people an option to switch all their teeth with identical metal replacements. Never have tooth ache again.. and businesses never lose money due to toothache related sick days.

I would make bicycle/EV highways with a top speed of 15.5MPH. I would sell four wheel two seater EVs (1500W) for £1200 but electronically limited to 15.5MPH (Power to weight ratio, currently is a joke of 250W).. there would be no need for tax or insurance or driving licence.. as they would be classes the same as bicycles.

I would put Stirling Engines everywhere.. they are a great source of green electricity. Sometimes solar panels overheat.. if you had a three prong solution.. a vertical wind turbine that had solar panels and for its base a Stirling engine, it would pretty much be generating electricity all the time.

Thorium reactors.. not exactly 'green' but more 'cyan'. Thorium is a good stop gap .. not accurate but think of it this way; current reactors are 90% clean 10% dirty.. Thorium is 99.9% clean and 0.01% dirty and even that dirt (radioactivity) is 300 years, not the 10% of 100,000 years.. Imagine we had.. thorium reactors that were designed from the ground up to be converted to He3 Helium 3 reactors once we have access to He3 from the moon. He3 reactors are.. *cough.. loud voice* 100% clean. He3 is the future of energy generation. But we need to get all the He3 from the moon as fast as possible! So say we use Thorium for 20 years.. then convert to He3.

Scottish houses wouldn't be showboxes with a lightbulb.. rabbit hutches. Think about how much builders and building companies charge .. the price of a brick is 50p. It's because we the people have banks backing us.. so it's like 'free money' for the building companies who have no incentive to give value for money.

When building a new house, I would bury a shipping crate underneath the house, this would be a sodium aluminium battery for the house, and I would have mini versions of the aforementioned wind turbines (wind solar Stirling) on the roof.

I would encourage a basic living income for all people, working or not.. I would cut taxation to zero.. which all would be paid for by mining our solar system and recovering the resources, selling those resources and so profit No one would have to die due to a stupid thing like money.. money is our way of rewarding those who contribute the most to society (supposedly) and those people can make as much money as they wish without taxation of any kind.

If we stop looking to the Earth for resources.. then we stop warring about those resources. And it is to be mentioned.. we have *near* unlimited resources in our solar system.. there is a layer of natural gas in Jupiter that could fit 1000 earths.. and here we are fighting for a sliver in the crack of the earths skin. On Neptune it rains diamonds. literally rains diamonds.. the carbon evaporates and when it cool in to drops, those carbon drops become diamonds.

I would FORCE every government to ban privately own energy companies, including petrol companies. One government equals one government owned energy company. IT would be in their interest to keep fuels bills at a minimum so they get reelected.. and we the electorate could see how well they are doing by examine our bills.. it would be a good gauge to see if they cared about or even respected us.

I would reintroduce our Scottish States.. which were disbanded in 2014.. and link the Scottish Additional Member System (our system of Scottish election) to those States.

I would remove the sugar tax for over 16 year olds.. if an over 16 year old can prove their age, they get the normal rate.

I would make land ownership a REAL thing in Scotland.. if you own your land you can build what you want without planning permission.. but of course no one wants slum lords.. so what you build must be for personal and family use and if you ever sell the land, you must either knock down the structure or go through the steps you would have done had you chosen to get permission.

If I ruled the world..

SNEC Scottish National Energy Company (Pært 2)

 Hullo

hInglish:

I'll do this in English first then Scots.. Although it really bugs why I should do this in English at all, making English seem the 'intelligent' language, and making Scots seem less intelligent and so devalue us as a peoples, making us seem stupid for not doing a dance around the English language. But no matter for now.. The SNP Leader candidates are using only English, which again bothers me, but I'll put up with it for now.

SNEC Scottish National Energy Company

While Westminster controls certain aspects of Energy as a reserved matter, there is a loop hole to this, in that, the Scottish Government are allowed to set up any publicly owned business they wish.. this includes an National Energy company.

The SG might not be able to legislate fully on Energy matters, however the SG is allowed to set up such a company and allow people to join it of their own free will.

100% Green energy means 90% free energy, minus 10% for set up and maintenance costs. A co-op style owned by the people energy company.

I would suggest going state by state, starting with Grampian, the state that might provide the most resistance to this idea and once they are (hopefully) on board with the idea, moving state to state based on least demand. Shetland, Orkney, Hebrides, Highland, Borders, Dumfries & Galloway, Tayside & Angus.. leaving Central, Fife, Lothian and then Strathclyde for last, as these will be the most demanding, especially Strathclyde (my state) with Glasgow being the hardest work due to our Glaswegian population.

Once the infrastructure for power generation is there, it is easier to provide for the states with larger demands.

Using the decommissioned oil platforms as a base for Wind and Wave energy in Scottish waters, and the pipelines, instead of pumping oil ashore, having electricity sent through cables to the mainland.

Roads having small vertical wind power generators.. think about how many cars produce wind as a by product of driving, having these generators alongside highways would offset some of the cost and provide *some* power during windy and non-windy days.

Every rooftop with a line of vertical wind power generators, solar panels and mini rainwater turbines in the pipes. I first imagined it as.. vertical power generators replacing every chimney, but why stop there..? In summer we now get loads of sunshine.

Reserved Matters

In Scotland we have.. get this.. 30,000 lochs.. not 300, not 3000.. Thirty Thousand lochs! all ready to pump out green energy.. however, The Tories sold off our rights to water energy generation in the late 80s, early 90s.

The SG owns Wind and Wave (and Solar.. pretty much everything but).. we don't own our Water Loch power generation.

I've done the maths.. and we could produce enough energy in ONE WEEK to satisfy our power needs for ONE YEAR. (see maths below)

But again this is held by Westminster.. unless we get independence.

To all those Tory voting businesses out there.. WHY?? .. Your customers can't afford your products and you can't afford the staffs wages while all this energy crisis is going on.. WHY continue to be a Unionist and vote Tory?

Stirling Engines

I came up with a way to combine loch water power and Stirling engines, see picture:

The Stirling engines take heat from the atmosphere and put it in to the water, while doing so the engines create electricity. As the water comes out of the dam, it generates turbine energy through gravity, but also releases the stored heat, this pooling and release is done again and again until the temperature is back to normal, each layer producing electricity through gravity and finally the excess power generation is used to pump the water back to the starting loch.

It might seem like a perpetual motion device, however the excess energy is coming from the environment.

To be clear.. this design of mine is simply an improvement of current designs. It does not figure in to the Water Energy maths below.

In Summer.. Stirling Engines themselves alone could provide electricity, with deep forks using the ground as a heatsink and transferring surface heat to the earth. Think of it like geothermal but in reverse.

Hydrogen

In the near to mid future.. batteries will never give us the freedom petrol did, I agree they are important for everyday vehicle use, but as a drop in replacement for such freedoms, we need to produce hydrogen.

Sourced from 100% green energy, available on masse, especially for Hydro trucks to carry our food cheaply and easily.

Keeping jobs for people in petrol stations, as Hydro stations.. keeping jobs in Grampian for those former oil workers, now moving to being maintenance people. Living on the rigs as they once did but instead of harming the environment, helping heal it.

This is something the SG could get in to with SNEC.. there is no law saying they cannot set up a publicly owned petrol to Hydro replacement company.

Sell hydrogen at cost + 10%.

Begin with hydrogen fueling station for trucks/lorries to carry our food and goods cheaply, then expand to consumer cars.

Sodium Aluminium Batteries

The price of lithium is going up and up and the earth doesn't have enough to provide for our upcoming needs.

Sodium aluminium batteries would however be easy enough transition to provide for our needs, using much of the same manufacture processes as lithium. Lithium and Sodium are like cousins on the periodic table.

The draw back is, for Sodium you need much larger batteries to achieve the same results. But in an industrial setting this much less of a problem, as we don't need to care how big the batteries are if they are to provide power for say.. a town.

Sodium Aluminium wouldn't be suitable for say.. an iPad, or a phone or EVs.. but for industrial applications they are a fraction of the price, can store and discharge large amounts of energy cheaply.

If we had control of our Water rights we wouldn't need any batteries at all.. but since we do not have control of those rights until independence.. we have to make do for now.

SNEC Scottish National Energy Company

Ays Westminster controls certain aspects o Energy ays a reserved mætter, we dæ hæ a loop hole tæ thys, iyn thyt, the Scottish Government ur allooed tæ set up ony publicly owned business they wa'nt.. thys includes an National Energy company.

Why Domestic Energy Should Be a Governmental Utility...

Why Domestic Energy Should Be a Governmental Utility...

Hullo

Ah'll screve thys in Scots first then iyn hInglish. Totally done wæ usin' hInglish tæ prove Ah'm intelligent.
I'll write this in Scots first then in English (see below). Totally done with using English to prove I'm intelligent.

Scots:

Folk/companies cannæ bæ trust'yt wæ energy.

We ur burnin the planet wæ oor need fur energy.

If yon energy is controlled bæ yon Government, then it kin awe bæ controlled fæ wan source. Wan source tæ sæy wits wit.. wan goal o' usin' only clean energy, green energy.

Bit yon is a trade aff.. coz noo, iyn thyt scenario we næ langer hæ access tæ a market an choice o' energy companies.. sa.. then the electric must bæ free.

Thys wid bæ fur the hæl planet.. bit let's gie a swatch ayt Scotlund specifically:

Scotlund hus a silly amoont o' hydro power.. we hæ 30,000 lochs, each wan able tæ bæ convert'yt tæ generate oan average a affy spry 300 MWh.. thys means we kin generate;

300 MWh

x 30,000

= 9,000,000 MWh

oar 9 thousand GWh

oar 9 TWh

Scotlund's annual usage fur electricity is 160 TWh .. bit yon is YEARLY.. sa let's dæ yearly then as the above is potentially HOURLY.. gien awe perfect conditions..

IF oan average each wan put oot hauf a TWh..

30,000 1/2 = 15,000 = 15,000 TWh

Thys wid mean we wid hæ 93.75 times the total power we need'yt.
Iyn o'er words.. we wid generate oor YEARS need o' power in wan WEEK an still hæ an'oer 4/5ths o' oor annual electricity needs left ower per week..

WAN MAJOR PROBLEM.. The Tories selt awe the hydro rights tæ companies in the late 80s early 90s.

Ah wid sæy jist pass a law takin thum back fur the people. Wæ the intention tæ gie awe the peoples free electricity.

Awe motors.. electric.. motors become free tæ run, if yon power is free, the motor is free runin. Then who gies twa hoots if there's chærgin ports everywhere? Næwan kin steal leccy coz it's no gettin chærged!

Næ weans freezin iyn the cauld!.. mær money tæ spend oan feedin the weans an clæs an educatin thum ayt hame.

POWER IS NO A RESERVED MÆTTER TÆ WESTMINSTER:
we could jist pass a law sæyin; gies it back!

CLIMATE CHANGE

Only wæy Ah see is.. tak it aff the people.. stop production o' fossil fuel motors, ban thum, except fur hauls bit wæy a time limit (sæy 5 years, then gone a'naw).. switch everyhin tæ electric. Use the surplus leccy tæ pay fur itsel.. miby hæ a yearly bill fur maintenance.. bit noo Ah swatch the maths.. aye thys kin pæy fur itsel!

Joabs ur transferable.

Let's git thys done in thys term! Why wait? Sa the earth kin burn some mær? Naw.. næ wæy.

English:

People/companies cannot be trusted with energy.

We are burning the planet with our need for energy.

If this energy was controlled by the Government, then it can all be controlled from one source. One source to dictate what is what. with one goal of only using clean energy, green energy.

But this is a trade off, if we take away peoples choice for a free market in energy supplier, we then must compensate then by making it free.

This would suit the whole planet, but let's look at Scotland specifically:

Scotland's has excessive amounts of hydro power.. we have 30,000 lakes, each one with the ability to be converted to generate on average a very conservative estimate of 300 MWh.. which also means we can generate:

300 MWh

x 30,000

= 9,000,000 MWh

oar 9 thousand GWh

oar 9 TWh

Scotland's annual usage for electricity is 160 TWh, so let's calculate with yearly in mind as the above is hourly (given all perfect conditions)

IF on average each one put out half a TWh..

30,000 1/2 = 15,000 = 15,000 TWh

This would mean we would have 93.75 times the total we needed.
In other words.. we would generate our YEARS power needs in one WEEK and still have have another 4/5ths of our annual electricity needs left over per week.

ONE MAJOR PROBLEM.. The Tories sold all Scotland's hydro rights to companies in the late 80s early 90s.

I would strongly suggest we just pass a law returning these rights to the people, with the intention of providing free electricity.

All (new) vehicles should be mandatorily made electric and so they become free to run, because the electricity is free. Then no one will care if there is charging ports everywhere because no one can steal electricity if its already free.

This also means a quality of life improvement for all children across the board, no child freezing to death for the sake of a few pennies in the meter, more money spent on clothes and feeding the child, more effort can be made in educating them at home.

POWER IS NOT A RESERVED MATTER FOR WESTMINSTER:
The Scottish Parliament could pass law returning the rights to the people.
We are sovereign in Scotland and it was sold without our consent.

CLIMATE CHANGE

The only way forward I can see is to take away the ability for everyday people to be producing large amounts a carbon. With no new fossil fuel vehicles except for haulage, and even giving haulage a time limit of 5 years than they too will be banned. Switching everything to electric so it can be controlled at the source how the power is generated.

Using the surplus to generate cash so the system can pay for itself.
With transferable jobs. A straight transition.

Let's get this done within this term! Why wait? So the earth can burn some more? No.. no way.

Dava

--------------------

Excess power should bæ fur hydrogen generation:

Fossil Fuel/Petrol

To fill an average tank is 65 liters
£1.80 per liter.
A Full Tank would cost you £177, and you
would get 780 miles per tank.

Hydrogen

To fill an average is 5KG
at £$/15 per KG.
A full tank would cost you £$/75 and you would
get 2000 miles per tank.

15,000 TWh = 1.5e+13 KWh

1KG of hydrogen costs 55 KWh of electricity

1.5e+13 divided by 55 = 272,727,272,727 Kilos of Hydrogen per year from just this one source.

272 Billion KG's of Hydrogen per year.

Scotland has on average 2.4 million cars on the road.

The average car in Scotland does 7,400 miles per year.

Totalling 17.76 billion miles combined.

And for Hydrogen as per the above graphics..

272,000,000,000 divided by 5 (for a full tank) = 54.4 billion x 2000 (miles per full tank)

.. meaning we would have access to 108,800,000,000,000 or 108 TRILLION miles of fuel.

We lose 60 to 80% efficiency, but that was already factored in with the 55 KWh.

However  petrol provides a certain freedom, which hydrogen does also and we NEED that freedom.

We can have small electric vehicles, little run about.. but the large long haul household car should be hydrogen.

-----

Hydrogen stockpiling..

Who is going to buy a hydro car if they know there's no fuel; waiting at the local pump??

A: no one!

The Government should stockpile a years worth of hydrogen and have our own 'Gas Stations' aka Garages owned by the government and fully automated. Set them next to the grounds of Police Stations and Fire Stations.. so no one will tamper with them. Cashless, card only.

If all petrol and diesel vehicles are banned over the course of a year and petrol and diesel were phased out over that year. All new cars hydrogen or electric or hybrid hydrogen & electric. Petrol and diesel engines are scrapped but the chassis/frame and the rest is fine to keep in case conversion of classic cars is desired.

All the current forms of racing can continue with Hydrogen, simply needing adjustment to the new fuel.. and would not have to stop as a sport completely.

The Fermi Paradox; The Horrors and Delights of Free-Will

Hi ..

Scottish Politics : Politics. Peace. Intersolar Travel. (scotspol.blogspot.com)

I'll write this in English as to reach out to a wider audience. (Although my first language is Scots) I also have a faith based slant, so that is in there too. I am Catholic and Abrahamic.

Why are humans the only civilization.. forgoing ecumenical spiritual beings*.. why are humans the only civilization we are aware of?

Shouldn't we have already made contact if an alien civilization exists? I believe that alien life exists, such as fish-like, plant-like, insect-like and cow-like.. but I do not believe that any alien civilization exists.. the Bible does not mention alien life, however omission is not a proof of a fact. And just because I suppose something; does not make it fact.. The Lord said He repented making Man.. but we are creating a '4th kind' in AI &  robot-kind.

Now that's out of the way.. lets discuss why we don't have aliens summer vacationing in Florida.

The Horrors of Free-Will

As humans spread out and become more and more frontiers people.. law will recede and people will be more and more free to do whatever they want as there will be no one around to stop them.

Imagine something that would seems Sci-Fi to us just now but in 2000 years.. born on Earth, then buy a ship with the ability to go anywhere in the universe, own a galaxy/solar system where no other human will ever come as space is so vast; no one will ever find you.

Acting out forbidden horrors like Genetic Engineering and manipulation.. a reasonably intelligent human could create beings and rule over them.. making them slaves and making them worship that human.

Every evil we could imagine..

Now put this into the context of an authoritarian civilization.. an alien one.. imagine random aliens with alien morality coming and experimenting on life here.

Well.. if their government at least have the morality that those alien citizens shouldn't be doing that, they will keep those citizens most likely in places they control, such as their own solar system.

Prose: If aliens exist it is unlikely they allow their kind outside of their reach.

Everything is Trying to Kill Us

Everything from the radiation to the distances involved.. but even if we overcome these things, I posit even on arrival of an earth-like twin.. everything would try to kill us.

Basic biology of two system in hostility, we would be entering a literally an alien environment never designed for us.

Remember what killed the aliens in War of the Worlds? That's right.. Terran bacteria.

If we blindly go to other planets.. that planet will kills us. And likewise the though occurs to me, if a alien civilization went to another planet.. it would, I think, mostly likely kill them too.

Remember when Australia was overrun with rabbits?.. now imagine that but in an alien body with our bacteria.. or vice versa alien bacteria and our body.

The common cold could easily wipe an alien planet out.

Max Capacity 1600KG or 21 Persons

Staying in the solar system means you get to have children.. going off in to the unknown, means you are  unlikely to ever meet another.. you will be alone for the rest of your life, unless you take humans with you.

This is the same for an alien civilization.

Our solar system will be packed full of humans.. 10's of trillions of humans, on every moon and major planet and dwarf planet and asteroid giant.. in the solar system, in the Oort Cloud.. but outside endless space and self reliance and loneliness.

That loneliness can lead to madness.

Cheer Up And I'll Buy You An Ice Cream

To get to this point we would have had to solved all the worlds problems.. and that is a remarkable achievement.

Humans are a mix of good and evil.. if we express goodness with consistency and teach our children to do the same .. then they are more likely to be good to any creatures they come across.

As we become spacial frontiers folk and resource mining based.. we become free and so long as we do not degenerate.. we are fit to inherit this Galaxy and all Galaxies.

The Delights of Free-Will

A life devoted to your own pursuits.
Never breaking another persons rules as you are always alone.
Robot-kind companionship.
You-do-you without interference.

Peace

Dava

-------------------------

*Angels & spirits.

*what if aliens have their equivalent of the common cold that would kills us etc.. if they are civilized they would not go to other worlds for fear of the chance of spreading the bacteria and killing whole planets

*4th kind.. either way you look at it.. Spirits, Angels, Man and Robotkind.. or Man, Woman, something inbetween, like Eunuch (trans) and then 4th kind AI/Robot

Noo winnin a majority o' seats iys the sensible wæy tæ go, ays its a mathematical impossibility fur wan pærty tæ win a majority o' yon vote share, iyn fact iyn 2015 wæ oor landslide victory o' 56 seats, we only won 49.97% o' the vote share. Add tæ thys iyn yon next General Election Scotland'll go doon fæ 59 seats tæ 57.. then we huv some hinkin tæ dæ.

Ah wid sæy.. General Election> Majority Seats> Declare Independence> Withdraw fæ Westminster>Abstentionism o' Seats (returning the money fur the joab tæ Westminster, lit Ireland)

Thys pits pressure oan hInglund tæ recognise oor independence, while we git oan wæ the joab o ruling oor æn country.

I was thinking..

Either we win more seats in the next General Election and/or vote share..

Now winning a majority of seats is the sensible way to go, as its a mathematical impossibility for one party to win a majority of vote share, in fact in 2015 with our landslide victory of 56 seats, we only won 49.97% of the vote share. Add to this in the next General Election Scotland will go down from 59 seats to 57.. then we have some thinking to do.

I would say..General Election> Majority Seats> Declare Independence> Withdraw from Westminster>Abstentionism of Seats (returning the money for the job to Westminster, like Ireland)

This puts pressure on England to recognise our independence, while we get on with the job of ruling our own country.
